I just want to say something quickly. It’s something we all agree with in the band but a lot of bands in UK hardcore (I’m not talking about any band in particular by way) I’ve noticed that they feel morally obligated to point out social prejudice. They’ll say things like ‘We need to stop racism homophobia and misogyny in hardcore’. I just feel that either they say things like that just to get a cheap applause or they do it because they feel they have to. I mean how many fucking nazis are turning up to these shows going ‘What?! I can’t be racist anymore?’.
Now for a lot of you who follow us on twitter or whatever you might think we’re all jocks or a bunch of meat heads from our posts, but if I can tell you a little secret, it’s all a bit of a joke. We find that jock mentality funny. The fact that bands look at us going ‘what a bunch of jock meat-heads’, they’ve got no depth in their music blah blah blah we find hilarious. I may not say every night ‘lets stop this or that’ but I give my audience the benefit of the doubt. But if anything as an audience member, I’d find that so patronising. This high and mighty vocalist is telling me how to think or feel. Fuck him, bands or vocalists aren’t anymore morally better or intelligent then anyone else. Don’t put them on pedestals. In fact the next time a vocalist does that whole bit about racism and stuff ask him, ‘what are YOU doing to stop it yourself, how many rallies are you going to? Or did you just sign an online petition once and think you’re high and mighty’.
